Professional Problem Solver
Patty Gill represents employers and business leaders in employment law matters. Her passion for simplifying complex situations and practical approach to every issue are hallmarks of her practice. Patty empowers her clients with legal solutions that make sense.
Before starting her own employment law firm, Patty spent 9 years at the international law firm of Hunton & Williams (now Hunton Andrews Kurth). Her training and mentorship there was top-notch. Patty first-chaired employment lawsuits and arbitrations across the country, defending companies and their managers whose decisions were being challenged. She witnessed how expensive and stressful litigation can be for everyone involved, and the time it takes away from business leaders actually running their organizations.
Patty formed her own practice in 2012 to focus on the counseling and preventative side of employment law. Many disputes can be avoided with proactive legal advice, solid policies, and clear documentation. These are preventative tools that Patty Gill Law provides to her clients today in an affordable manner. One quick call or e-mail can prevent a costly court battle.
In addition to minimizing her client’s legal risks, Patty prides herself on being accessible, responsive, and efficient. Employment law issues can be urgent and also emotional, and Patty is sensitive to both concerns. Her goal is to put her clients at ease while solving their problems on their timetable, however quickly that may be.
Patty is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia. She obtained both her B.A. in History (with distinction, Phi Beta Kappa) and her J.D. from UVA. Patty is admitted to both the Virginia and Texas bars. While her office is located in Richmond, Virginia, she supports employers located in states across the country.
In her spare time, she enjoys being with her family and their two dogs, spending time with friends, traveling, trail running, wine tasting, and trying new restaurants.

A Record of
One of the things that makes Patty unique is her responsiveness. Often, when HR issues come up, they need to be addressed as quickly as possible, and Patty is always very easy to reach and flexible when scheduling calls. Patty is also very efficient in the way she asks the pertinent questions to understand the legal needs and then offers knowledgeable legal counsel.
– Human Resources Manager, Healthcare System
I would recommend Patty to other business leaders because she tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. Straight talk is imperative when it comes to employment-related issues, and Patty’s ‘bedside manner’ is endearing, yet firm, at the same time.
– Managing Partner, Accounting Services Firm
I have worked with Patty for over 19 years and consider her an integral part of our team. Her in-depth legal knowledge and solid counsel help ensure we are making the best decisions for our organization. I especially appreciate her comfortable communication style and ability to find workable solutions to complicated issues.
– Senior Vice President Human Resources, Hospital System
I have worked with Patty for over 16 years. The reason my organization has a continuous relationship with Patty is her responsiveness, practical approach, knowledge, and her ability to work well with any personality.
– General Counsel, Private Equity Firm
Patty Gill is the absolute trifecta of subject matter expertise, terrific bedside manner, and pragmatism. She truly serves as a trusted advisor, focusing on creating long-term value for our business and providing reasonable, doable, and easy-to-execute advice. She is bright, charming and extremely accessible.
– Associate General Counsel, Transportation Company
Patty appreciates the fine line between running a business/human interaction and buttoning down our legal position. At no point does she suggest we do something without recognizing the reality of its implementation.
